We import and stock a nice selection of Icelandic
sheepskins in our warehouse in upstate New York. With a wool length of approximately 6”
to 8”, the long wool and curly wool sheepskins make ideal rugs and furniture coverings.
Native Americans use the white sheepskins for ankle dressings and the
black and brown ones are used for buffalo headdresses. The hair
is so long that it does not go in one direction like a dog or cat's fur,
but rather it falls in every direction. The shorn sheepskins have a
wool length of 0.75" to 1". This is not a hollow hair, so it doesn't break or shed.
