As the exclusive agent in the United States and Canada for the supplier in Iceland, we are able to offer the best prices for these beautiful, all-natural colored sheepskins. With a wool length of approximately 6 to 8, the sheepskins make ideal rugs and furniture coverings. Native Americans use the white sheepskins for ankle dressings and the black and brown ones are used for buffalo headdresses. The hair is so long that it does not go in one direction like a dog or cat's fur, but rather it falls in every direction. This is not a hollow hair, so it doesn't break or shed.
Genus and species: Ovis aries.
Icelandic sheepskins are not endangered. The skins we offer are a by-product of the food industry in Iceland. The animals were not killed just for their skins.

A Note on Size and Quality The Standard skins measure approximately 6 to 7 square feet and are approximately 36 by 24 wide. They may have slight imperfections, such as a small hole on the hide side or a rip that has been sewn up. We usually do not recommend these for us as decorative skins, even though it is usually impossible to notice the imperfection from the hair side. The Super First skins measure approximately 6 to 7 square feet and are approximately 36 by 24 wide. However, they are of better quality than the Standard skins with few if any imperfections on the hide side. These are suitable as decorative skins. The Super Large skins are good-quality skins measuring approximately 7 to 8 square feet and are approximately 42 by 26. The quality is the same as the Super First. The skins are just a bit larger.

A Note on Colors The white skins are "creamy white." The natural color of the skins often has a yellowish hue to the color. As the skins have not been bleached, they often have varying degrees of "cream." Click HERE for a gallery of creamy white skins. The piebald skins vary in patterns quite a bit and may be black and white, brown and white, black and brown and white, etc. They may also have spots in the middle or different coloration along the edges.
