The cow rawhide was de-haired, cured, stretched, and dried. They come rolled up.
The Full hides average 35 to 40 square feet, while Sides (half
hides) average 17 to 20 square feet. One natural thick SIDE cow hide measured 94" long by 34" wide.
The Thick rawhides are 4 to 7 oz (1.6 to 2.8 mm) thick and the Thin rawhides are 2 to 3.5 oz (0.8 to 1.4 mm) thick. On the full cow skins, there are variations in
the thickness of the skin. The neck is very thick and the bellies are
thinner.
Rawhide is also referred to
as parchment or vellum.
