Icelandic Sheepskins
We import and stock a nice selection of Icelandic sheepskins in our warehouse in upstate New York. With a wool length of approximately 6” to 8”, the sheepskins make ideal rugs and furniture coverings. Native Americans use the white sheepskins for ankle dressings and the black and brown ones are used for buffalo headdresses. The hair is so long that it does not go in one direction like a dog or cat's fur, but rather it falls in every direction. This is not a hollow hair, so it doesn't break or shed.
Genus and species: Ovis aries. Ranch. Icelandic sheepskins are not endangered. The skins are a by-product of the food industry. The animals were not killed just for their skins. These skins can be shipped outside of the U.S. without a U.S. Fish & Wildlife export permit. To return to the main Icelandic Sheepskin page, click HERE.
