On the full cow skins, there are variations in
the thickness of the skin. The neck is very thick and the bellies are
thinner. The cow rawhide was de-haired, cured, stretched, and dried. The hides average 35-40 square feet. Sides (half
hides) average between 17 and 20 square feet and are 3 to 4 mm thick. They are rolled up. Rawhide is also referred to
as parchment or vellum.
