On the full cow skins, there are variations in
the thickness of the skin. The neck is very thick and the bellies are
thinner. The cow rawhide was de-haired, cured, stretched, and dried. They come rolled up.
The Full hides average 35-40 square feet, while Sides (half
hides) average between 17 and 20 square feet. The Thick rawhides are 2-2.5 mm thick and the Thin rawhides are 0.8-1.4 mm thick. One natural thick SIDE cow hide measured 94" long by 34" wide.
Rawhide is also referred to
as parchment or vellum.
