The axis deer have gorgeous
coloring and differs from fallow deer by the spots on the spine. Axis deer are also known as Chital deer, Cheetal deer, and spotted deer, their skins are in high demand for decoration or furniture
upholstery. When we say that they are used for upholstery, we mean backs of chairs or rarely used furniture. They are ideal for wall mountings, floor displays that are not walked on, etc.
because deer have a hollow hair. If you walk on them or let a large dog sit on them, the hair will break and shed over time.
Measured down the middle on the skin side, the medium hides are 30" to 40" long, the large hides are 40" to 50" long, and the extra large hides are 50" or longer. Tails are not included in the measurments. Hides may or may not include tails.
These axis deer skins are alum tanned.

Genus and species: Axis axis. Ranch
or Wild.
Regular hides are from wild deer and Upholstery grade hides come from ranch-rasised deer.
Axis deer are not endangered and not subject to CITES.
Axis deer are not endangered. In fact, there are so many of these, that culling operations are undertaken to keep them from becoming overpopulated and damaging the ecosystem. The animals are not killed just for their skins. Our supplier of the wild sourced deer hides tells us that 97% of the animal is re-purposed for meat, pet food, antlers for decoration, etc. Our ranch-raised deer were harvested from ranches and most of the deer will be used including the meat. The skin is saved and tanned.
A USFWS export permit is required for shipments
outside of the United States.
